She’s starred in movies and television show, as both an actress and dancer. A previous laker woman, Shelby is renowned for supplying the vocals of Peridot on Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe. Steven Universe is among the most radical shows on television, in almost any genre. It includes a mainly nonwhite cast; explores problems of sex, identification, love, consent, and loss through figures that vary in form, size, sex, age, sex, competition, and presentation; and constantly challenges heteronormative scripts, along with being available, entertaining, and excellently plotted. Shelby’s character’s arc and underlying that is potential (that we desire to see manifest further), is tremendously radical. We don’t want to spoil way too much, but Peridot’s change from colonizer to rebel defender is reclaiming and that is refreshing general, it is radical to know a Filipina vocals frequently on US system children’s television.
